Meet Dr. Farmer
Dr. Farmer graduated from Harvard University before pursuing doctoral training in clinical psychology at Long Island University, Brooklyn campus. Her therapeutic approach is integrative. She believes that our self-defeating behaviors are not always in our awareness and is curious about the origins of her clients’ problems while also grounding therapy in the present. She emphasizes coping skills and behavioral changes (utilizing modalities such as CBT and DBT) that can help alleviate suffering and improve functioning.
Dr. Farmer has worked in numerous settings, including a university psychological services center, a community health clinic, a hospital outpatient unit, a foster care agency, and school systems. Her research has focused on emotion regulation and its impact on child parent interactions.
Clients often see Dr. Farmer for concerns such as anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma as well as relationship conflicts, career challenges, parenting issues, and identity struggles. Dr. Farmer aims to create a collaborative and non-judgmental environment in which to explore the causes of her clients’ feelings and to develop coping skills in the here and now.
